Chelsea FC Transfer News: No New Strikers in January Because of Mourinho’s Ego
Despite poor effectiveness by his strikers, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has pledged not to add any more options upfront in January.
Demba Ba, Fernando Torres, and Samuel Eto'o could only account for four goals, to date, which brings in much speculation that the Portuguese mentor may sign a reinforcement that can contribute immediately.
To make matters worse, loaning out Romelu Lukaku to Premier League rivals Everton seem to have been a terrible mistake, as the Belgian forward have already tallied 8 goals for the Toffees in the ongoing 2013/14 season.
Nevertheless, Mourinho remains firm that he will stick with his team in spite of the clamour to bring in an effective and efficient goalscorer.
"If we had eight-10-12 goals [from the strikers] we would be top of the league. That's a reality but my strikers give everything and the team works hard. What can you do more? We work, we keep working. That's the only way I know is to keep working." Mourinho told The Telegraph.
"Of course we want the best possible results, but I am not waiting for players, I am not asking for players. This is a period for the club and this is a period of my team where we have to try and improve the players we have and try to build a future."
"It is my squad. For good and for bad it is my squad. Of course it is not the perfect squad, but it is my squad and I work with them until the last day. To criticise does not help me. What do I win by criticising my players? I win nothing."
Is this a matter of Mourinho's ego getting in the way of Chelsea's success? You be the judge.
