Episode 15, titled "Deathtrap," kicked off the massive three-hour #OneChicago crossover that saw all four "Chicago" programs in one storyline. In what is called the series' biggest feat to date, directed by Joe Chapelle and written by Andrea Newman, the episode tackled a rather controversial and fresh tragedy involving the Oakland warehouse fire. The choice for the storyline met a few critics, but NBC's decision to go with such an emotionally-charged direction was necessary to sustain the audience for three hours. Fortunately, it did not disappoint and the issue was handled masterfully.
In the next episode, titled "Telling Her Goodbye," we see Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) dealing with five local gang members who take Firehouse 51 under siege while hiding from another gun-toting group. Worse, the duo is left to handle the situation on their own because they weren't able to warn Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) of the attack.
On a video clip posted on YouTube, we see Stella offering to give medical assistance to one of the gang members who got shot. Casey tries to call for help, but will not be allowed to use a radio. The drama intensifies as the rival gang discovers where they are hiding and drives up to the firehouse. Fans can expect a massive exchange of gunfire. We can only hope nobody else gets hurt.
It is believed that "Chicago Med" will figure nicely in this storyline especially after the show's Twitter page posted a teaser about the former "heading over." Some fans had criticized the previous episode for giving the "Med" team little exposure, writes TV Fanatic. Hopefully, episode 16 will give Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and the rest of their team more screen time to make it an even truer crossover.
Season 5 episode 16 of "Chicago Fire" will air March 21 on NBC in the US. In Australia, it will air on FOX8.
