Child actor Corey Feldman warns that paeodophilia in Hollywood is ‘growing, not shrinking’
‘Lost Boys’ star says let Michael Jackson ‘rest in peace’
Recent discussions about child molestation in Hollywood have reopened old wounds of child actor Corey Feldman, and he’s not mincing words about the serious issue.
This week, “The Lord of the Rings” star Elijah Wood made entertainment headlines, after he reportedly said that Hollywood has its own share of sexual abuse cases just like the Jimmy Savile scandal in Britain. In an interview with The Sunday Times, the 35-year-old former child actor admitted that he’s been “led down dark paths to realise that these things probably are still happening.” Fortunately for him, his mother was able to protect him from abuse.
Wood took to Twitter to clarify that his statements were not based on personal experiences but on news reports and documentary films. He wrote, “I had just seen a powerful documentary and I briefly spoke with the reporter about the subject which had consequences I did not intend or expect.” The Hollywood Reporter said that the actor was referring to the 2015 documentary film "An Open Secret."
It was also in The Hollywood Reporter where Feldman recounted the paeodophilia cases in the Tinseltown. The “Goonies” star told about parties where sexual predators “groomed” their victims. “They would throw these parties where you’d walk in and it would be mostly kids and there would be a handful of adult men,” he revealed. “ [T] hat's the networking, and that's when you become pals with them and you get their phone numbers and you get their mom's phone numbers.”
Whilst Feldman told the publication that he had never been actually raped, he was molested repeatedly. “There were some molestations and it did come from several hands, so to speak, but with Corey, his was direct rape, whereas mine was not actual rape,” he said. Feldman also hinted that one of those who molested him is still in Hollywood. “He's still prominently in the business today,” he claimed.
In the interview, Feldman also talked about his fellow child star Corey Haim, whom he said became a rape victim at the tender age of 11 years old. “I miss having my best friend,” Feldman said. “He was the only person that could make me laugh unstoppably. He had a charisma about him and a charm and a sense of humor that was unparalleled.”
The discussion also touched on Michael Jackson, who was accused of child molestation even now that he’s dead. Whilst Feldman admitted that he had a falling out with the music icon, he said that Jackson was never inappropriate with him. “The man is gone. Let him rest in peace,” Feldman said.
He also claimed that sexual predators in the entertainment industry still persist in the digital age, where social media has become prominent. “ They reach out to little kids on Twitter, they reach out to little kids on Facebook, and they say, ‘I'm a big producer and I can help you,’ Feldman explained. “It's a growing problem, not a shrinking problem.”
