Chris Algieri Isn’t Worried About Manny Pacquiao’s Speed
Speed is one of the most important things that a fighter should have if he wants to have an advantage over his opponent. It would be easy to break the pace of an opponent with speed. Manny Pacquiao has been praised for his excellent blinding speed inside the boxing ring. The Filipino eight-division world champion has managed to cause defeats to some of the biggest fighters in history because of his lightning fast punches and quick defense manoeuvres, but Pacquiao's next opponent Chris Algieri isn't really worried about the Filipino's speed inside the ring.
In an interview with Ring TV, Algieri praised Pacquiao's ferocity. The undefeated New Yorker said that there isn't a fighter who can be compared to Pacquiao. Algieri said that Pacquiao has his "own style." Algieri isn't quite bothered that he will be facing a southpaw fighter because he said that he had perfectly dealt with them in his previous fights.
"This is my seventh southpaw though that I've fought, so that's nothing new to me," Algieri said. "I've worked with tons of speed guys in the gym and the thing about speed is that I'm not a slow guy myself," he added.
According to Algieri, he knows how to beat Pacquiao's speed. "It's about rhythm and timing." Algieri also revealed that he has been training with guys who are almost the same size, quick-handed, and fight like Manny. Algieri is currently in the second and final stage of his training camp in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao has also been training in the southern island of Mindanao in preparations for the fight. One of Pacquiao's sparring partners, Stan Martiniouk, is certain that the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion will be victorious over Algieri on November 22 in Macau, China.
Martiniouk told Rappler that Pacquiao is in already in top shape. Martiniouk said that Algieri is in for a tough fight. He said that Pacquiao has been throwing punches very fast and from all over the place that can inflict damage on the unbeaten American. Pacquiao is also slated to spar with undefeated junior welterweight Viktor Postol, Mike Jones, and Jose Ramirez.
