It was perhaps 20 years ago but apparently British actor Christian Bale is still smarting over the fact Drew Barrymore was not interested in him romantically.

In an interview with an Australian men's magazine, Bale, 38, recalled the humiliating experience of going on a date with the 37-year-old Barrymore when they were teenagers. Bale's revelation is a rare glimpse into his private life with most of his interviews focusing on his work. However, the actor did not reveal what the awful horror film was.

"We went to see some bloody awful horror film, and that was the end of it," Bale told GQ Australia.

"She never called again," the actor further shared.

At the time of their date, Barrymore, who comes from Hollywood royalty as her grandfather was John Barrymore, would have been a far more well-known actor than Bale.

At 11-months-old, "The Gray Gardens" star made her film debut in "Altered States." By the time she was 20, she had appeared in about a dozen major films including "E.T." and "Firestarter."

However, the Welsh-born Bale was no slouch either. After making a few TV commercials, he caught director Steven Spielberg's eye. At the age of 13, Bale was cast in the starring role of "Empire of the Sun." Although Bale did not say how he had met the attractive young actress, one possible connection would have been Spielberg.

Meanwhile, it is safe to assume that neither is pining for one another any longer. Bale, who stars in the new Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" has been married to his wife, Sandra "Sibi" Blazic since 2000. The couple is happily married and they have a 7-year-old daughter.

Barrymore has not been as lucky in love though. She was married twice and was also quickly divorced to actors Jeremy Thomas and Tom Green. Nowadays, the "Cover Girl" model seems to be back on her feet in the romance department. She is about six months pregnant with her first child and plans to marry fiancé Will Kopelman later this year.
