Christian Bale wins his first Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor
Australian actor, Christian Bale bags the Best Supporting Actor Award at 83rd Academy Awards
Controversial actor, Christian Bale is the proud winner of the Best Supporting Actor award at 83rd Academy Awards held Sunday night at the Kodak Theater, Los Angeles on February 27, 2011.
Bale couldn’t be happier as he received his first Oscar awards for his role as a former boxing champ in “The Fighter”.
The often-controversial actor known for his role in latest Batman films has edged his way over equally strong nominees for the category, including Australian actor, Geoffrey Rush for “The King’s Speech”. He also beat out in huge defeat other fellow nominees: John Hawkes of “Winter's Bone”; Mark Ruffalo, “The Kids Are All Right”; and Jeremy Renner, “The Town “.
The 37-year-old actor, who had made the headlines a couple of years back when an audio-recorded with his rants surfaced the web, has stolen the media spotlight from his co-star, Mark Wahlberg, who is featured in the film as his younger brother, Micky Ward.
The Batman star, said Dean Goodman of Reuters is the third Welsh-born actor to win in Oscars’ major category, following the footsteps of Ray Milland and Anthony Hopkins.
