College Football Player Dies In Cliff-Diving Accident

A University of Oregon tight end was found dead Wednesday after sustaining head injuries in a cliff-diving accident.
Spencer Webb, 22, from Sacramento, California, was a junior entering his fifth season with the Ducks.
Police responded to a call at about 2:30 p.m. local time about a person injured and rock slides near Triangle Lake, which is located outside of the University of Oregon in Eugene. Officers responded and found Webb about 100 yards down a steep trail, the Lane Country Sherrif’s Office said in a statement.
“Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 22-year-old male recreating in the area fell and struck his head,” the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said in the statement that bystanders and responding paramedics tried to revive him, but they were unsuccessful. Authorities said that “there is no evidence of foul play and his death appears to be accidental.”
“So full of life in every moment of the day. Your smile and energy will be missed Spencer. I love you!” Ducks head coach Dan Lanning posted Thursday on Twitter.
Webb’s identity was originally withheld by police until his family was notified.
The Sacramento Bee in 2016 reported that Webb was raised by his aunt, uncle and grandparents and that his older brother eventually became his legal guardian.
Webb's death was first reported by the Bee. News of Webb's death drew attention on social media.
Spencer Webb had every reason to be angry at the world yet carried himself with enthusiasm and joy. May we all be so fortunate as to have his perspective and outlook on life.
