Couple News: 'Star Wars' Creator George Lucas Engaged to Mellody Hobson
"Star Wars" creator George Lucas got engaged to Mellody Hobson, his girlfriend of seven years. E! News and the Daily News confirmed the eventful announcement.
The 68-year-old film director is ready to walk down the aisle once again after his marriage to Maria Lucas failed in 1983. According to George Lucas, he is also prepared moving on to bigger and better things with the 43-year-old businesswoman Mellody Hobson.
This will be Mellody Hobson's first marriage. Hobson is the president of the $4 billion management firm Ariel Investments LLC. Also, she is a contributor on the American morning television show "Good Morning America."
Aside from the forthcoming wedding, life has also been exciting for George Lucas after he sold his company, Lucasfilm, to Disney recently. The business deal was reportedly worth $4 billion in cash and stock.
"For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next," Lucas said in a statement.
"It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime," Lucas further stated.
Most of the $4 billion amount that George Lucas received from selling Lucasfilm is donated to an unnamed foundation that mainly focuses on education concerns. "For 41 years, the majority of my time and money has been put into the company," Lucas said in a statement.
After the accomplishments he achieved, George Lucas expressed that he is still thrilled to face another chapter on his life. "As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy," Lucas shared.
