‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ season 3 update: Renewed for fifth season, CW renews more shows

With “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” season 2 wrapping up on Feb. 3, buzz is that the series has already been renewed for a third season. The romantic musical comedy as well as the “Jane the Virgin” has brought the CW network its first major awards and recognition. The series’ second season was released on Netflix on Feb. 11, 2017.

So, when does “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” season 3 release? Season 2 finished airing on the CW earlier this year. While the network has no official word on next season’s release date and number of episodes, it may likely announce details in May, says a Deadline report. Fans can expect a late 2017 winter or early 2018 spring debut, based on the show’s previous premiere dates.

The CW president Mark Pedowitz recently stated that some of the network's shows will be full seasons. That means that some of the CW shows will have 20-24 episodes each season. Others will have to go with 13 to 18 episodes.

Given the show’s previous two seasons’ record -- 18 episodes for season 1 and 13 for season 2 -- “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” season 3 is likely to be in the 13 to 18 episode-range. “Certain shows are better suited to be 13, 16 or 18 episodes,” Pedowitz said earlier in a CW executive session.

The CW Network has also announced early renewal for six other shows in its fall lineup. The network's four DC shows have been renewed for new seasons. "Arrow" will have a sixth season while "The Flash" has been renewed for a fourth. "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is confirmed for a third season, and so is "Supergirl" (season 3). Other CW shows “Supernatural” will move ahead with season 13 while “Jane the Virgin” will debut with a fourth season.

“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” ranks as one of the 50 Best TV Comedies on Netflix. It is also among Netflix's 50 Best TV Shows. The show’s award-winning star Rachel Bloom was nominated again for best performance at 2017 Globes Globes Award. Bloom previously won Best Actress (Television Series Musical or Comedy) at the 2016 Golden Globes.

The show has been critically acclaimed with critics praising the script, music as well as Bloom's performance. According to Rotten Tomatoes, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” season 1 had 96 percent positive rating, with season 2 doing even better—100 percent rating with an average rating of 9 out of 10 based on 13 reviews.

Fans will be able to watch “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” season 3 latest by 2018. Meanwhile, the show’s previous seasons are available for online streaming on Netflix.
