'Criminal Minds' Season 9 Episode 6 Recap: Witches, Witch Hunts and Things that Go Killing in the Night
As though a nod to Halloween's favorite beings, "Criminal Minds" Season 9 Episode 6, titled "In the Blood" features a surprising twist to the tale of witches.
It starts with the BAU team being called out to deal with a case where a woman was found tortured, entombed and crushed to death in a very ritualistic manner.
After a quick investigation, the team found two more bodies with the same brandings and wounds relating them to the previous murder. At the same time, the fact that the victims were removed of any modern items and clothing hailed to the possibility that the unsub was killing them in the same way that witches were killed in the past.
And so the hunt began for the unsub who seemed to have found his roots, or as the episode title hints at, what is really in his blood: to hunt down and kill witches for this era.

A Witch Hunt Prevented from Going Wrong
With another abduction happening, the team is forced to find any clues in the lineage of witch hunters, supposedly hailing their ancestry from William Stoughton, the magistrate who served as magistrate at the Salem Witch Trials.
They find it in the person of a young librarian who apparently has access to not only the library for family lineages, but also a book on witches and witch hunt. Apparently, this unsub is having his own delusions of being a witch hunter, complete with angry olden times mobs with torches and pitchforks yelling for the witches' heads.
"Criminal Minds" Season 9 Episode 6 also shows one of the more unique victims - one who goes along the fantasies of the unsub. In an attempt to save a daughter, the mother shows proof that her child is not a witch, through a birthmark that she called the Angel's Kiss.
And as what usually happens, "Criminal Minds" Season 9 Episode 6 comes to a very exciting close, at sundown, where before the abducted mother and child could be killed by way of a witch burning, the BAU team comes to the rescue in order to bring true justice.
A Happy Halloween Tribute for the Team
With the case now having come to a close, the BAU team end the episode by giving tribute to their loved ones who have passed away.
As expected, Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) paid tribute to their loved ones who have passed away, Mauve and Haley respectively.
And as though a nod to the upcoming news of having a deeper look into Alex Blake's family, during the tribute part, Blake (Jeanne Tripplehorn) had offered hers to her mother who had gotten her into linguistics. There's no mention of her father or brother, who are supposedly the characters who will be in the spotlight next.
All in all, "Criminal Minds" Season 9 Episode 6 presents one of the more hallucinatory unsubs, a good relationship between a mother and daughter victims, and an especially seasonal nod to Halloween.
