Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden pregnant with second child
Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is expecting her second child with her husband Prince Daniel. The Royal Palace of Sweden took to its official Facebook account and announced the news on Friday, Sept. 4.
Victoria, 38, and husband Daniel are already parents to Princess Estelle, 3. “Their Royal Highnesses Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel are happy to announce that The Crown Princess is expecting their second child. The birth is expected to take place in March of 2016,” the palace said in a statement on its Facebook page.
The palace added that there is no change in the official schedule of the heir apparent and her husband this fall, People reports. The couple’s first child has been named after her maternal and paternal grandmothers.
The news of Victoria’s pregnancy follows her younger sister Princess Madeleine's giving birth to her son Prince Nicolas in June. The baby prince was born just two days after the high-profile royal wedding of Prince Carl Philip and his fiancée Sofia Hellqvist.
In August, Madeleine and her husband British-American banker Chris O’Neill announced that little Nicolas would be christened on Oct. 11 at the Royal Chapel in the Drottningholm Palace in Stockholm.
Meanwhile, the crown princess celebrated her 38th birthday on July 13. Following tradition, the big day was celebrated by the Swedish royal family at their official summer residence of Solliden Palace on the island of Ӧland. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia were also on hand for the festivities.
The family greeted members of the public who had gathered outside the palace with gifts and cards for their future queen. On the occasion, it was Princess Victoria's daughter Estelle who was in the spotlight as a mini-fashionista on her mother’s special day. The cute 3-year-old waved to the crowds as she joined Victoria and her dad Prince Daniel for the family celebrations.
Princess Victoria married a commoner Daniel, her former personal trainer, in 2010. Currently, she is next in line to the throne after her father, King Carl Gustaf XVI, who has ruled since 1973. In 1980, three years after the princess was born, Sweden changed its constitution to permit the eldest heir to inherit the throne regardless of gender.
