'The Crown' Season 2 latest news: ‘Downton Abbey’ actor Matthew Goodman cast as Lord Snowdon
After winning the hearts of fans as racecar driver Henry Talbot in “Downton Abbey,” actor Matthew Goode will soon make more viewers swoon. The 38-year-old British actor has landed a big role in the phenomenal Netflix biopic, as he was cast as Lord Snowdon in “The Crown” Season 2.
Lord Snowdon, whose real name is Antony Armstrong-Jones, is the society photographer who was married to Queen Elizabeth II’s sister Princess Margaret from 1960 to 1978. Fans would remember that in “The Crown” Season 1, the two sisters fought over Margaret’s relationship with Peter Townsend. Goode will bring to life Lord Snowdon’s character in the second season, according to RadioTimes.
There are high expectations from Goode, after he made an impression in “Downton Abbey.” Prior to his stint in the phenomenal TV series, he was also seen as lawyer Finn Polmar for two seasons on CBS’ “The Good Wife.” Goode steps into “The Crown” Season 2, which will feature Queen Elizabeth’s reign until 1964. The previous season, released in November, depicted the life of Queen Elizabeth II from her wedding in 1947 until events occurring in 1955.
Fans are eager for the return of the period drama, which has recently bagged two Golden Globe wins. “The Crown” star Claire Foy took home the best actress award at the 74th Golden Globe Awards for her stellar portrayal of Queen Elizabeth. “The Crown,” on the other hand, bested other series – including “Game of Thrones” – for the best drama award.
Viewers are expected to be glued in to the upcoming installments as it would be the last season for Foy and most of the cast members. In December last year, Foy revealed that her days in “The Crown” are already numbered. “After two seasons, that’s it. I’m gone. They’re getting rid of all of us,” she said in an interview with Vulture. “I don’t how they’re planning on doing it, but they’re such an incredible bunch of directors and producers that it’s gonna be different and exciting.”
