Fans are still reeling over the unexpected news of Nina Dobrev’s departure from long-running CW series “The Vampire Diaries,” but are still excited to see how supernatural drama will turn out in its season six finale regardless. That being said, CW has officially released some photos from the last episode, with the main characters looking even more somber than ever, making viewers wonder if Dobrev’s character Elena Gilbert has something to do with the subdued atmosphere.

MTV has compiled the released photos from the episode “I’m Thinking of You All the While,” TVD’s season six finale which will air on May 14. The pictures depicted the main characters in a spacious room looking serious and glum about a problem everyone seems to be having. Could it be because Elena has finally regained her humanity in last week’s episode, and that they have realized that life in Mystic Falls will forever be altered?

The photos definitely showed Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Caroline (Candice Accola), Bonnie (Kat Graham), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and the rest of the gang looking like they were about to face bloody consequences instead of celebrating that Elena finally got the life she has always wanted. It is to be noted that Dobrev herself was not seen in the photos, sparking rumors that her character might have been killed off, hence the dark and gloomy expressions of her friends.

Meanwhile, Alloy Entertainment stated the show will have huge changes following Elena’s decision to be human again. Previously, executive producer Julie Plec has revealed that final episode for TVD season six might end in a flash forward. "The show’s not cut yet, so by the time I’m done with it, it might not, but currently it does," she said. Moreover, Plec, who has always been keen on not spilling too much spoilers, assured fans that they wrote the finale in a way that Dobrev’s exit will be respectful to her relationship with Damon, who is still trying to decide on whether to take the vampire cure too or not.

Nina Dobrev has spent six wonderful years as the leading lady of long-running CW series but now she has decided to move on and explore other opportunities in store for her. Plec admitted that she has done whatever she could to make Dobrev stay, but it seemed like the young actress has already made up her mind, Web Pro News reported. The whole TVD family had been emotional while filming her last scenes, but they all wished her well in her next endeavors. Her character Elena’s exit from the show still remains unclear, and all fans could do for now is sit and wait.
