Just over a year after the release of fantasy RPG “Bound By Flame,” Focus Home Interactive and French-based development studio Spiders Games have announced a new sci-fi RPG called “The Technomancer.” Set on Mars, “The Technomancer is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC, and sees players take control of an aspiring Technomancer during the “War of Water.”

News of the announcement comes via an announcement on the Focus Home Interactive website, which provides an overview of the game’s story and details what features players should expect. The game promises a deep RPG feature set, including four different skill-trees, which focus on three fighting styles using electricity-focused Technomancer powers.

“The Technomancer” also promises to give players the ability to resolve conflicts using dynamic dialogue and branching conversations, allowing gamers to change the story based on the decisions made during gameplay. Players will also have the ability to craft weapons, armour and equipment, and recruit a team of companions to accompany them on their adventure.

The announcement notes that companions play an integral role in gameplay. Gamers will need to nurture relationships and bond with them in order to reveal secrets about their past. Players will also be able to level up companions, and most quests will offer up to five different endings, which will alter the rewards they get as well as the companions they’re able to meet.

If this all sounds a bit familiar, it should. The development team’s previous game, “Bound by Flame” offered many similar features, allowing players to engage in fast-paced RPG combat, solve quests via conversations and affect faction outcomes, and journey with a number of companions. Though similar, “Bound by Flame” was set in a fantasy universe. Both games appear to share a few superficial similarities with BioWare’s “Mass Effect” and “Dragon Age” franchises.

Unfortunately, while the two BioWare’s are generally well-regarded, “Bound By Flame” and its Mars-based follow-up “Mars: War Logs” met a mixed critical reaction. Gamespot rated “Bound By Flame” a 4/10 in its review, noting its dry writing, dull environments and problems with presentation. “The Technomancer” is set for launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. No release date has been announced, but Focus Home Interactive have pegged the game for a 2016 debut.
