Dacor to Release Wall Oven Powered by Android OS
For 2013, the California-based kitchen appliances maker Dacor will release the first wall oven using Android OS. The wall oven has a dimension of 30 inches and its Android controller is powered by a seven-inch device called Discovery IQ controller.
The release of the Android-powered wall oven follows the trend of the OS being used outside the traditional mobile phones and tablet computers.
In August 2012, Samsung released the Galaxy Camera which is powered by the Android OS platform and features 4.8" display, Android 4.1 Jellybean, 16.3MP camera, and the ability to send both SMS and MMS.
In 2011, Samsung released a Smart Fridge in CES that features special apps, built-in 8-inch LCD screen, and Wi-Fi connectivity. This smart appliance can actually access Twitter app, Google calendar, and updates latest news and weather from Weather Bug and Associated Press.
The soon-to-be released wall oven can access apps and Google Play Store and can play games such as Temple Run or Angry Birds while waiting for that cake to be baked.
The specifications of the said appliances are not as powerful as some high-end portable devices such as the Nexus 7 or MacBook Pro but it makes a lot of difference because it is a "smart oven".
Dacor's 30-inch oven with Android OS:
- Android Operating System - 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich
- 7 inches display with 800x480 resolution
- Samsung S5PV210 1GHz processor
- 16GB internal storage with expandable slot for up to 32GB
- Wi-Fi connectivity
If a house has all these appliances and devices powered by Android OS, imagine that almost every single room would have its own Facebook access; which means one would never be disconnected again.
The smart oven is expected to be released summer 2013 and would cost $4,499 for the single wall and $7,499 for the double wall models.
