Actor Daniel Radcliffe has warned parents that his new movie "The Woman in Black" is genuinely frightening despite film bosses fighting for a lower age rating.

The "Harry Potter" actor stars in the creepy new movie, adapted from Susan Hill's book of the same name. The movie was given a 12A rating in Britain after producers agreed to cut out several minutes of spooky footage.

The age restriction means children under the age of 12 can see the film if accompanied by an adult. However, despite the ruling, Radcliffe is adamant that adults should think carefully before taking their kids to see it.

"It's pretty scary. I know it's got a 12A rating, but I would think long and hard if you are thinking about taking a kid under 12 because it's a very, very, genuinely frightening film. You will be scared," Daniel tells Sky News.

The story of the film follows a young lawyer named Arthur Kipps, portrayed by Radcliffe, who is ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased client's papers.

As he works alone in the client's isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover tragic secrets. His unease begins to grow when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black.

Receiving only silence from the locals, Kipps is forced to uncover the true identity of the "Woman in Black" on his own, leading to a desperate race against time when he discovers her true intent.
