'Daredevil' executive producer 'thrilled' after winning Saturn Award for Best New Media TV Series
“Daredevil” has won the prestigious Saturn Award for Best New Media TV Series. Each year the award is given out by the non-profit organisation The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, and this is the only award that is dedicated to recognise the work done in genre entertainment for film, television and home entertainment.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have won this award,” said Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb in a post on Marvel.com. “To be recognized in a field among so much outstanding genre programming is particularly special for Marvel Television.”
Two seasons of the TV series have already aired. The award was given in recognition of the first season. The show was created by Executive Producer Drew Goddard and the showrunners of the first season were Steven S. DeKnight and Jeph Loeb Loeb. The executive producers of the second season were Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez along with Goddard and Loeb.
“Daredevil” tells the story of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), who goes blind at a very young age and has superhuman senses. He develops his powers and uses them to fight crime in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.
The show is yet to be renewed for Season 3. Speaking with Independent, Cox said that he doesn’t know if there is going to be another season of the popular TV series.
In the mean time, Marvel is going ahead with some of its other superhero projects. Cox announced that a TV series with Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage will start filming later this year.
Cox confirmed that Daredevil will be a part of “The Defenders” TV series. The actor said that he did not know what the storyline of the new TV series will be, but was excited to see how the writers combine the different worlds of the superheroes.
