'Daredevil' Season 3: Kevin Smith wants to take passion from comics to screen; wants to direct an episode
Writer and director Kevin Smith is interested in directing an episode in “Daredevil” Season 3 and has been campaigning for the same, he revealed in a recent interview. He has already directed an episode of the popular “The Flash” TV series and is now ready for more.
Smith has written the “Daredevil” comic series. In an interview with IGN he revealed that he is interested in directing an episode in the next season of the TV series. He said that he feels “at home” working in the superhero universe.
In a conversation with Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, Smith has already pitched the idea of him directing an episode. Quesada and Smith worked on the comics of Matt Murdock together. Smith wrote the comics and Quesada drew them.
“Dude, I want to direct Daredevil, man. That'd be wild to be able to do it in real-life,” Smith told Quesada. He also offered Quesada to co-direct an episode of “Daredevil” Season 3. Smith said that it would be just like working on the comics again, and now they have the opportunity to take their passion “from the page to the screen.”
“I'm going to try and make that Daredevil thing happen,” Smith said. He explained that he has been campaigning for the role every time he has spoken with Quesada and Executive Vice President of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb. He, however, did not reveal what the reactions to his requests were.
Apart from “Daredevil” Season 3, Smith is also interested in directing an episode of “The Defenders” mini-series by Marvel. Smith said that an opportunity to work on that project would be “phenomenal.” The writer/director said that he prefers to work on TV shows because somebody else has already done the “heavy lifting” of introducing the characters to the audience and explaining their state of mind.
