David Beckham Catches Stray Ball During Wimbledon Match [VIDEO]
Football legend David Beckham showed the world how he was not only good at handling a ball with his feet, he also skilled with using his hands. David, who was watching Wimbledon on Friday with mother Sandra Beckham, managed to catch a rogue ball with one hand.
During the Jamie Murray-John Peers versus Jonathan Erlich-Philipp Petzschner doubles match, the ball Peers served on the opening game of the second match bounced from the line judge’s chair and into the Royal Box. Sitting at Centre Court, Beckham caught the oncoming ball before throwing it back. The audiences immediately clapped in cheered in delight upon seeing him do it. The former Manchester United star, looking bashful as he was showered with attention, smiled and waved at the crowd.
The Championships, Wimbledon, or more commonly known as Wimbledon, is the oldest and considered as one of the most prestigious tournament in the field of tennis in the world. The games are traditionally held at The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club Limited, also known as the Club, located in Church Road, Wimbledon, London.
The Club was established on July 23, 1868 with the name The All England Croquet Club. In 1877, it was changed to The All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club and then into The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 1899. The club gained its current name on Aug 2011 when it was adapted into a company under limited guarantee. The Championship games are separate from the activities the members of the club.
The Peers-Murray duo won the match with the score 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2. They will be playing the men’s doubles final on Saturday against Jean-Julian Roger and Horia Tecau.
This was not the first time Beckham watched a Wimbledon match. Over the years, he had been snapped viewing the games with various members of his family. On Friday, he was with his son Romeo, 12, watching the match between Andy Murray and Vasek Pspisil.
