David Bowie breaks Adele’s ‘Hello’ record of most viewed video on Vevo
The late musician David Bowie has been known as an iconic singer who broke barriers with his music style and songs. Even in death, Bowie continue to shatter records specifically Vevo’s record for most viewed music video in a day.
Bowie’s music video catalogue on Vevo has gained the most number of views in a single day on Jan. 11, according to Entertainment Weekly. The Vevo record was previously held by Adele’s “Hello” which saw 36 million views during its release in October 2015. Bowie’s music video catalog has seen 51 million views in a day.
Vevo’s music catalogue contains more than 60 of Bowie’s music videos which includes hits such as “The Heart’s Filthy Lesson,” “The Jean Genie” and “Space Oddity,” Entertainment Weekly reported. Bowie’s final album titled “Blackstar” was released on the singer’s birthday on Jan. 8. The singer’s most recent music video for his new song “Lazarus” has been viewed 11.1 million times in one day.
Bowie’s “Blackstar” album is also expected to top the Billboard 200 album chart, according to Billboard. Initial sales estimates of Bowie’s new album suggests that it could sell around 130,000 in the week ending Jan. 14. If “Blackstar” reached the top spot in Billboards’ 200 album chart, this would mark the first time that one of Bowie’s album landed at the number one spot in the US. It is also expected to surpass Adele’s latest album “25.”
Meanwhile, Bowie’s body was said to have been secretly cremated without any special ceremony or family members present, Mirror reports. “There is no public or private service or a public memorial. There is nothing,” a source told Mirror. Bowie has told his loved ones prior his death that he wanted “to go without any fuss.” An insider also stated that a funeral service may not be needed to remember the iconic singer’s accomplishments and career, given Bowie’s music legacy.
“In many respects you don’t need a memorial or service to remember David by...you have his music instead. He would have wanted to just disappear with no fuss, no big show, no fan-fare. This would totally be his style. His last album Blackstar was very much his goodbye to fans instead,” the insider shared to Mirror.
Bowie died on Sunday, Jan. 10, after battling liver cancer. He was 69.
