'The Defenders' season 1 update: Photos, release date, show timing, what we know so far

Finally, “The Defenders” season 1 has been scheduled to release, and is hitting small screens on summer 2017. Fans from all over are beating the drum as the first official photo has been released. According to reports, this not-so-Avengers-like Netflix original series will have people watch small screen superheroes Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Danny Rand coming together in an unworldly kickass team-up.

The cast remains the same. Charlie Cox plays Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil while Krysten Ritter retains her Jessica Jones character. Mike Colter will play Luke Cage once again, with and Finn Jones donning his signature role as Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist.

Marco Ramirez of Daredevil fame, who will be a part of “The Defenders” season 1, said the actors were unaware of the alliance before they landed up separately in the production house’s offices. “Every one of them is following their own trail of bread crumbs, trying to unpack a mystery in New York,” he explains, citing they wanted all of them to get caught off guard. “Once they’re in that room together, it’s kind of like, ‘Oh, s—, who are you?’” Ramirez added, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb, whose brainchild is “The Defenders,” resolved to bring some of Marvel’s lesser-known heroes together back in 2013. “The Defenders didn’t have a ‘D’ on their belt buckles and a Defenders Tower,” Loeb said. “We agreed from the very beginning that these folks could at the very end go, 'I never want to see your face again.'”

And almost three monsoons later, Loeb’s idea materialised, offering to the world the brand new Netflix original, “The Defenders” season 1. That being said, the story should have broken the back of the writer as it is obvious what a herculean task it would be to juggle four leads in a single story. Also, an award-winning actress, Sigourney Weaver, will be seen playing a mysterious villain in this series.

According to IMDb.com, “The Defenders” season 1 will comprise of eight episodes in total. As of now, timing and other details about the show haven’t been announced.
