Details Of Historic Ceremony Of Prince George’s Royal Christening [PHOTOS/VIDEOS]
On Oct. 23 at The Chapel Royal at St. James Palace, His Royal Highness Prince George Alexander Louis was baptized. The Ceremony was serenaded by the Queen’s choir and graced by closest relatives of royals.
Prince William and Kate Middleton have made the occasion absolutely special for their adorable son and even bucked some royal traditions. The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev. Justin Welby, greeted the guests as they arrived at the chapel. The occasion of Prince George's Royal Christening was kept unusually intimate unlike the larger ceremonies that his father and grandfather had at Buckingham Palace.

Together for the first time since 1899, the most memorable and historic 45-minute service conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury witnessed the four generations of British monarchs photographed by celebrity portrait photographer Jason Bell.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Reverend Justin Welby performed the Three-month-old Prince George's Royal Christening.
Prince George baptized with water from the River Jordan by The Archbishop. He smeared him with the water held in the historical Lily Font with the shape of the cross on his forehead.
"The Lily Font is a silver baptismal font which was commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840 for the birth of their first child, Victoria, Princess Royal. It was first used at The Princess Royal's Christening in 1841 and has been used at every Royal christening since then," stated an official press release from Kensington Palace.

The Archbishop knew how sacred the ceremony really was, especially for a world's most fmous and prestigious personality like Prince George. He said in a video released right before the ceremony:
"As a nation we are celebrating the birth of someone who will in due course be the head of State. That's extraordinary. ... All through Christian history, for 2,000 years, being baptized meant to join the family of the church and that's what it means today.
Prince George will be the head of State of numerous countries around the world, he will visit more countries than most of us will ever do, and in all of them there will be those who, like him, have been baptized. I will mark Prince George with the sign of the cross on his forehead and that's exactly what every priest does at every single baptism. That is the sign by which we understand that this person belongs to God."
Seven godparents announced for Prince George:
- Zara Tindall (daughter of Princess Anne, Prince William's cousin and close friends of the couple).
- Oliver Baker ( who got to know William and Catherine at St. Andrew's University)
- Emilia Jardine-Paterson (who went to school with Catherine, and William van Cutsem, a childhood friend of William).
- Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton (a former private secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge)
- William van Cutsem,(a childhood friend of William)
- Julia Samuel, who was a good friend of William's mother, Diana, Princess of Wales
- Earl Grosvenor (son of the Duke of Westminster)
The 3-month-old Prince George has already made history as he is the first royal baby to be honoured with a christening coin from the Royal Mint.
The design of the coins, produced by the mint in a range of sizes and materials, has been approved by his parents and the Queen, the Royal Mint said. The public can purchase the keepsakes, which open at 13 pounds ($21) for the simplest type but go up to a huge price of 50,000 pounds ($80,000) for a version containing a kilogram of gold.
