Dev Patel delivers Australian persona flawlessly in upcoming film ‘Lion’
Dev Patel delivers his Aussie character impressively in new Australian film “Lion.” The first trailer of the movie was recently revealed and Patel’s acting performance promises a character to be anticipated for.
In the first look of “Lion,” viewers got to see a strong cast alongside Patel including Rooney Mara, who plays as the actor’s girlfriend, Nicole Kidman and David Wenham, who play as Patel’s adoptive parents in the movie. The “Slumdog Millionaire” actor also impressed people having totally nailed an Australian accent.
“Lion” is directed by Garth Davis who’s known for his work on “Top of the Lake.” The upcoming movie is based on Saroo Brierley’s 2013 memoir “A Long Way Home.” Patel portrays Saroo who goes on a journey to track down his birth mother and brother in Calcutta. Child actor Sunny Pawar plays the young Saroo in India.
“Lion” will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and has been attracting attention not only for its true to life epic story, but as well as for its promising production. Hollywood distributor Harvey Weinstein has reportedly bought worldwide rights outside Australia and New Zealand and lined up the movie for a November release in the US.
The just-released trailer for “Lion” has very well notified viewers that it’s going to be one emotional ride home. It tells the story of Saroo, a 5-year-old boy, who was separated from his family in India and accidentally travelled thousands of miles away from home. Unable to find his way back, he lived on the streets before winding up in a local orphanage. It was here that Saroo gets adopted by an Australian couple named Sue and John Brierley (Kidman and Wenham). Two decades later, an adult Saroo found himself longing for his birth family and wondering where they could be. This then started his attempt to find them with only scraps of information and by researching using Google Earth.
“Lion” will debut in Toronto on Sept. 10 and will open in Australian theatres on Jan. 19, 2017.
