‘Die Hard 6’ Update: Len Wiseman to direct ‘Die Hard: Year One’
“Live Free or Die Hard” director Len Wiseman and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura have teamed up again for the sixth installment of the “Die Hard” series, titled “Die Hard: Year One.”
“Die Hard: Year One” is a prequel to the action series and is set in 1979. This film is about John McClane's initial years, so a younger actor is set to play the younger version of Bruce Willis’ character, McClane, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
The sixth edition will explore the circumstances that made McClane a tough and fearsome cop that the audiences have come to know over the years. Though the setup and theme have been finalised, the film is yet to get a screenwriter.
“Die Hard” series provided Willis his career defining role. Now with a fresh face playing young McClane in the latest edition, it may be a lot to take for the diehard fans of “Die Hard.”
The last film of this franchise was “A good Day To Die Hard,” released in 2013, which introduced Jai Courtney as McClane’s son and as a possible successor to star Willis. This film was not as warmly received domestically as the previous films, but it was successful overseas.
Beginning with the first film “Die Hard” in 1988 till the fifth edition in 2013, the film series has earned USD 1.4 billion (AUD 1.9 billion) at the worldwide box office for 20th Century Fox.
