With his latest film on the top three of the holiday weekend box office, Director D.J. Caruso of “I Am Number Four” has signed another deal to direct a comic-book adaptation “Preacher”.

The job was first reported for Sam Mendes. But the Revolutionary Road director has his hands full with the new James Bond movie. The Reuters added that Darren Aronofsky was also considered to direct the film.

Aside from the teen sci-fi film, “I Am Number Four”, featuring Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant, Dianna Agron and Teresa Palmer, Caruso’s film credits include “Eagle Eye” and “Disturbia”.

According to Reuters, “Preacher” is based on the 1990s DC/Vertigo series which features the character of a ]down-and-out Texas preacher possessed by Genesis’. Genesis is a supernatural entity borne out of the union of an angel and a demon.

The plot story revolves about the preacher going to a journey with his girlfriend and go across America in search for God. God is represented in the story as one who has abandoned his duties in heaven. The conflict of the story begins in the search as the couple tried to make God accountable to his ‘negligence’.

The series is created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillion and had been on air from 1995 to 2000. No details on the shoot have yet to be finalized.
