Doctor Left Mobile Phone On Woman's Belly After Cesarean Section Delivery
A woman who had a cesarean section delivery last month claims that the doctor who operated her accidently left a mobile phone inside her. She came into this assumption when her family noticed her stomach vibrating not long after the surgery.
Hanan Mahmoud Abdul Karim is a Jordanian woman who gave birth to a healthy baby boy, weighing 4.8 kilograms, on April 24 in a private hospital in Amman. Her operation went smoothly and she was discharged from the hospital after fully recovering. However, she experienced stomach pains and soon her family claimed that the 36-year-old’s stomach was vibrating. “My daughter suffered serious pains and could not move,” her mother told local media. “I brought her back to the hospital where she was treated but nothing was done for her.”
Hanan was then brought to another hospital, this time in Al Bashir public hospital in Amman for further workup. Abdominal X-rays were performed and revealed that a foreign body was indeed inside her. Although the object was initially dubbed as “unidentified,” the physicians at the said hospital immediately performed a surgery to remove it. And according to Gulf News, the phone was removed.
The Jordanian parliament has expressed their opinions on the said incident. Member Salim Al Bataynah pushed for the resignation of the Jordanian government due to the said issue. “In countries which show respect to their nations and following such scandals, governments usually resign,” he said. “The parliament should show responsibility and be on the level of the case.”
Meanwhile, the Jordanian Health Ministry, particularly spokesman Hatem Al Azrae labelled the scandal as “baseless” and “fabricated”. Nonetheless, he confirmed that the ministry is investigating the details of the incident.
