Eddie Murphy to receive a Comedy Icon award at the first ever Comedy Awards
Eddie Murphy is among the few actors recognized at the first ever Comedy Awards ceremony in Hollywood scheduled to be held at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on March 26.
The ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ actor is expected to be presented the Comedy Icon Award at next month’s ceremony, according to Casey Patterson, the executive producer and executive vice president and event production of MTV Networks Entertainment Group.
“Eddie Murphy’s impact in the world of comedy is insurmountable,” the executive producer of MTV Networks Entertainment Group was quoted as saying by Exposay.com
Patterson explained, “ From the characters he created on ‘SNL’ to his groundbreaking stand-up performances and unforgettable film roles, Murphy changed the game forever and we’re honored that he will be joining us for the first-ever Comedy Awards.”.
The organizers of this weekend’s event have announced more names to present awards as well as those who have confirmed attendance at the first Comedy Awards ceremony in New York.
These include, said Exposay.com Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, Jimmy Fallon, 'South Park' creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Bill Hader, Chloe Moretz and Kristen Wiig.
Guests and presenters will be entertained throughout the ceremony by Grammy Award winning group, The Roots.
Aside from Eddie Murphy’s Comedy Icon award, the first Comedy Awards show has also revealed an additional special award: The Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence.
The award said organizers, according to Exposay.com will be given to ‘an individual who embodies the comedic excellence of the renowned and beloved comedic powerhouse.”.
The Awards management has remained mum who will be the recipient of the special award. The event will be aired on April 10 in the United States as well as other MTV networks including Comedy Central, Spike TV, TV Land, VH1 and Nick at Nite.
