Elon Musk slammed for 'defending' Trump's immigrant ban

Elon Musk has been slammed on social media immediately after his apparent support for US President Donald Trump’s immigrant ban. The founder of SpaceX is now a business adviser at the White House. His Twitter post about Trump’s executive order regarding the immigration policy attracted instant disapproval.

The entrepreneur asked people to read the executive order in detail and let him know about “specific amendments.” He wrote that he would seek a consensus from the advisory council and present it to the president. His social media post is now being criticised as some view his efforts as a way of defending a policy, which is “morally wrong.”

Some believe that Elon Musk is trying to “legitimise the policy” by making concessions on it. Other people believe Donald Trump’s policy is fundamentally wrong. It is not a “good idea” with minor flaws. So, it is not possible for Musk to correct it with a few amendments.

Trump earlier signed an executive order to ban people from seven countries from travelling to the United States. The seven Muslim majority countries are Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

Elon Musk has been under fire in recent times for apparently contradicting his own moral beliefs. Musk, who has been an active advocate of clean energy, earlier endorsed Rex Tillerson, Trump’s choice for the secretary of state. Tillerson is the CEO of ExxonMobil, a huge oil and gas company.

Musk’s endorsement for the ExxonMobil CEO was surprising. He said in a webcast hosted by Tesla last year that he was ready to do everything possible to “accelerate the transition to sustainable energy.”

Now that Musk is apparently endorsing Trump’s immigration ban, it is worth noting that he has a non-American lineage. His mother Maye Musk is a South African-Canadian model and dietician. The parents of his South African-born father were British. His lineage includes Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry as well.

Elon Musk is a part of Trump’s Strategic and Policy Forum. His fellow member, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, is a part of the company’s operating committee, which earlier released a statement to the employees.

“In light of recent executive orders in the United States regarding immigration policy, we want every one of you to know of our unwavering commitment to the dedicated people working here at JPMorgan Chase,” USA Today quoted the statement. “This includes a number of our outstanding employees — all of whom have adhered to our country's immigration and employment processes — who have come to the United States to serve our company, clients and communities.”
