Eminem's '8 Mile' Michigan Theater Set Visit Delayed As Ashley Tishdale Remembers Brittany Murphy, Robin Williams
The free showing of Eminem’s 2002 film “8 Mile” hosted by Detroit’s Michigan Theater originally scheduled on May 30 has been delayed because of a city inspection of the theatre. According to the event organizers, the screening may be rescheduled in June.
The memorable freestyle-rap scene in the “8 Mile” film was filmed in the Michigan Theater. According to Preservation Detroit's Michael Hauser, it will be the first film screened at the 89-year-old theatre building since the 1970s “The Bang Bang Gang,” Detroit Free Press has learned.
In 1977, the auditorium of the Michigan Theater was gutted in to make way for the parking garage. Its interior has attracted filmmakers such as "8 Mile" director Curtis Hanson. In 2014, Eminem returned to the Michigan theater for his "Shady CXVPHER" music video filming.
Written by Scott Silver, “8 Mile” is set in 1995 in Detroit, Michigan. Its title is derived from the highway called 8 Mile Road, which runs along the border between the predominantly black lower-class neighbourhoods in Detroit and the predominantly white upper-class suburbs in Oakland County.
In “8 Mile,” Eminem plays Jimmy “B-Rabbit” Smith, Jr., a struggling rapper on the hip-hop scene in Detroit in the1990s. The character’s mother was played by Kim Basinger while his love interest Alex Latorno was played by the late Brittany Murphy.
Meanwhile, in Health magazine’s June issue, “Clipped” star Ashley Tishdale said she looked up to Murphy growing up. She said she met Murphy backstage at a Kids' Choice Awards, where she received a memorable advice from the late actress.
At the time, Tishdale said she was disappointed because she was doing pilots but they were not getting picked up. However, she said she had a boost of confidence when Murphy reminded her that she is an actress and she had to keep going and never give up.
Tishdale also told the magazine that the late Robin Williams was an inspiration to her. She described the late actor, who was said to be a big fan of Eminem, as one of the nicest people who was just a nice and humble man.
“It was funny because at the first table read, I was so nervous because Robin Williams was sitting at the table and he laughed out loud at one of my lines,” Tishdale recalled guest starring with Williams on “The Crazy Ones.”
