‘Empire’ Season 2 Cancellation A Hoax, Taraji P. Henson Is Keeping Her Cookie
In light of recent news about “Empire” Season 2 cancellation that came from New York Times News, actor Jussie Smollet confirmed that the news is a complete hoax via his Twitter account. Setting the record straight to all fans who are anxiously waiting for the show’s sophomore season, Smollet trashed the cancellation news on April 23, Thursday, after the satirical publication posted the fake story on Tuesday, April 21.
“We would like to thank everyone who supported the show last season,” according to the publication’s made-up statement from the “Empire” cast. “We are keeping hope alive that Lee Daniels works this out with Fox so we can get back to filming one of the biggest shows of all time.”
Based on the report of News Buzz Daily, the show’s Season 2 cancellation is due to contractual negotiations, according to Fox’s public relations representative, Charles McRae. Apparently, the show’s creators could not reach “an acceptable agreement” with the network and are currently looking for another network for the show.
Created by Danny Strong and Lee Daniels, the Fox musical drama series was renewed for second season on Jan. 17 after the show debuted with massive ratings on Jan. 7. The show’s premiere ranked as Fox’s highest-rated debut in three years and the show’s viewership increased continuously until the show wrapped up on March 18.
The show stars Terence Howard (Lucious Lyon) as a dying father of three who needs to pick the right son to inherit the keys to the Empire Entertainment. Lucious’ estranged ex-wife is Cookie, played by Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson, an outspoken ex-convict who took the fall for drug dealing to finance Lucious’ early career.
Meanwhile, Henson is definitely keeping her Cookie role on “Empire” Season 2 during her recent interview with Digital Spy. The actress admitted that she has more creative freedom with the show as she can put her insight to her character to be used in future stories. The show even let her ad lib which gives her the total freedom that is so rare on television.
