Jose Mourinho’s future at defending Premier League champions Chelsea remains cloudy as reports grew that representatives of the Portuguese manager had met with Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan to see if they would be interested in appointing him as their next manager.

Chelsea have made one of the worst Premier League starts by a defending champion, picking up just 11 points from their opening 10 games of the season, having lost five of these 10 games. They currently lie in 15th position in the table.

Rumours of Mourinho’s possible sacking have intensified after the team lost yet again last weekend, 2-1 to West Ham, with Mourinho also being sent off to the stands by the referee for his behaviour after Nemanja Matic was sent off.

Mourinho boldly claimed earlier this season that he was the best manager Chelsea had ever had, and that the club would never sack him. One of the reasons for that could possibly be the fact that he would be eligible for a massive pay-out from the club if asked to leave. That sum could be as high as a whopping £30 million (AU $63.3 million), considering he only signed a new four-year deal in February, and is being paid a massive £10 million (AU $21.1 million) in wages per season.

According to ESPN, Mourinho’s representatives have reached out to Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan. The Paris club is currently managed by former Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc, and have done well to win Ligue 1 the last three years in a row, but have been aiming for success in the UEFA Champions League, where having someone with the pedigree of Mourinho could prove handy indeed.

Inter Milan could also be a potential destination, although the club have lost some of their sheen since their 2010 Champions League win, when they were managed by Mourinho.
