Expect A Lot Of Nude Bodies In Wellington As New Zealand Wins Bid To Host International Naturist Federation’s World Congress In 2016
New Zealand would be the venue of the International Naturist Federation's (INF) World Congress in 2016 after the country's Naturist Federation won the bid to host gathering. That would mean about 200 naturists from over 30 countries would stay at the Wellington Naturist Club's headquarters in Upper Hutt.
According to the club's president, Wendy Lowe, the event would be from Nov 16 to 20. The gathering aims to provide naturists an opportunity to come together and tackle issues such as censorship and legal problems.
New Zealand beat Italy in the hosting bid. The last gathering of naturists was in September 2014 at the Lough Allen Hotel, a spa hotel in Ireland where going around in public one's birthday suit is illegal and there are no officially designated tourist areas.
The INF World Congress is held every two years. Lowe said the New Zealand hosting of the naturist conference would provide a world-class business event and cultural participants from registration to venue facilities and accommodation options.
The Ireland gathering sought to promote touristic naturism, said INF Vice President Mick Ayers, who noted that the country is missing out on the growing global trends for naturist tourism. He said Ireland would have been an ideal naturist paradise because of its long coastline and secluded beaches.
In the case of New Zealand, the November 2016 gathering would be a period when weather in Wellington is not at its best. Lowe said the delegates could always wear a jersey. "We're not masochists," Lowe said.
In 2010, the event was hosted by Idaho.
