Your Facebook account will soon be like your iOS and Android phones as it will launch its App Center in the coming weeks.

The world's number one social network will offer apps and programs for web browsers as well as for Apple and Android users using their tablets or smartphones. The apps are part of Facebook's strategy to improve the experience of its more than 900 million users that uses their mobile gadgets.

According to Facebook's officer Aaron Brady, "the App Center is designed to grow mobile apps that use Facebook whether they're on iOS, Android or the mobile web. From the mobile App Center, users can browse apps that are compatible with their device, and if a mobile app requires installation, they will be sent to download the app from the App Store or Google Play."

Software developers were invited by Facebook to prepare the description pages for listing in the App Center, where applications will earn spots based on quality, popularity and other metrics.

The Facebook App Center is not another App Store competing against Apple's App Store or Google Play Store. The new Facebook App Center will help the two app stores as it will direct traffic to them. As such, Facebook will be distributing apps for multiple companies, for multiple platforms, for multiple devices, from just one place.

Brady said that the App Center is a place where users can find useful and entertaining apps such as Draw Something, Pinterest, Spotify, Battle Pirates, Viddy, and Bubble Witch Saga. Although the details are not complete yet, Facebook said that it will allow paid applications and will charge users with flat fees.

Applications at the center must be designed to let people sign-in using Facebook Connect.

Facebook will soon have the biggest cross-platform app store. This is part of Facebook's goal to be more than just a social network leading the company in exploring other horizons. Facebook wants to own everything that is social and to deliver more than social and entertainment to its users.

Thus, the App Center is an attempt to become the main destination for social apps, regardless of what platform they run on. The App Center aims to be the generic platform where users will access and download its apps. Facebook has more than 901 million monthly active users and more than 488 million mobile monthly active users. The huge market has a distribution potential that developers and Facebook will not want to miss out on.
