Josh Trank reportedly had a different version for “Fantastic Four” from what is being played in the theaters currently. The director tweeted on Aug.7 that his version of the film was “fantastic.” He later took down the tweet.

Warning: spoilers ahead

In the current version, four friends, Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm get their powers after they go on an unsanctioned voyage to Planet Zero. They later take down Victor Von Dom in a fight on Planet Zero.

"Fantastic Four” has got a negative response from the audience. According to The Hollywood Reporter it got a C-Cinema Score and an 8% rating on Rotten Tom. The critics have also panned the film. “This good work gets ignored in the film's second half, when generic science fiction peril takes over and Hollywood's umpteenth black hole gets press-ganged into service to once again threaten life on Earth as we know it,” wrote Kenneth Turan of L. A Times.

It is not known what was Trank’s version of the film but his name has been dragged in various controversies since the filming of “Fantastic Four” reboot in 2014. According to Collider, there was a rumour that Trank was “indecisive” on the sets.

The fans criticized the film for its casting choice. They were not happy with Michael B. Jordan playing Johnny Storm and Jamie Bell playing Ben Grimm. Jordan had addressed the criticism in a column he wrote for Entertainment Weekly and called his casting “a creative choice “of the director.

Speaking about choosing Bell to play The Thing, film’s co-writer Simon Kinberg told L.A Times, “It's more dramatic when that character becomes a huge rock creature -- that's a bigger transformation. The notion of a working-class tough guy who's been pushed around by his bigger brothers his whole life seemed like a more interesting character,” he said. “Fantastic Four” has earned $26 million on Box Office till now. Its sequel opens on June 9, 2017.
