'Fast & Furious 7' Film Being Rewritten to Give Paul Walker A Respectable Farewell

The untimely demise of leading star "Fast & Furious 7" of Paul Walker on last November 30 has put a big question mark on the future of film. Universal is on tenterhooks to retrieve existing footage shot for "Fast & Furious 7," counting scenes shot with the late Paul Walker, instead of starting afresh. Following lead star Walker's catastrophic death, studio chairman Donna Langley and production co-president Jeffrey Kirschenbaum have taken the responsibility of finding an artistic conclusion to their most beneficial franchise of all time.

Writer Chris Morgan has been tasked to amend the script in hope that Walker's character, Brian O'Conner, can be reverentially be superannuated from his much loved series. If everything goes according to Universal's plan, production could restart on as early as January. Allegedly, half of the shooting for the "Fast & Furious 7" has been done at the time of Walker's death.

"Almost exactly half of his (Walker) role was done," says a source close to the production to The Hollywood Reporter.

"What will drive everything is, is there an honourable and sensible way to do this?" but there's not really a road map for the situation," said the source.

The source revealed that the studio will in due course release a seventh and probably an eighth instalment of the "Fast & Furious" franchise.

"I actually believe [the tragedy] will add to returns. Sadly, it will probably make people more interested," stated a competitor studio executive.

The studio has put approximately $150 million into the movie, "a bill that its insurance firm, Fireman's Fund, might have to pay in full if Universal concludes the picture must be started anew." According to expert calculations the insurance claim will be the biggest in silver screen history.

As "Fast & Furious 6″ DVD release is scheduled on Tuesday, December 10, following Walker's death Universal's marketing co-president Michael Moses promptly changed the ad campaign for the DVD release. Undoubtedly this is a smart move by Moses in which the commercials were redesigned to reflect the studio's philanthropic approach to donate some amount of profits to Walker's charity organisation "Reach Out World Wide." "Fast & Furious 6″ DVD is featuring more legendary images of the late star from the franchise.

"I would definitely say that there is a lot in terms of the movie making process that Fast and Furious fans will want to see on this Blu-ray," "Because there are so many characters and scenes that did not make it into the film, and they're definitely going to want to see that," said Ludacris in an interview with www.ign.com of the extended cut and characters of the film which are included in "Fast & Furious 6″ DVD.

In the meantime Walker's charity, "Reach Out Worldwide," has stated that they are appreciative for all of the support and fan tributes to the late star and great philanthropist.

"We've seen the most incredible outpouring of support from Paul Walker fans over the past week. To those who have attended the many tributes worldwide, posted heartfelt messages online, and supported his charity Reach Out Worldwide-we'd just like to say thank you,"posted the charity on their Facebook page. "Your gestures of love have meant so much."
