FC Barcelona has officially announced, through Vice-president Josep Bartomeu, that they are on the verge of signing either Pepe Reina or Mark Andre Ter Stegen, as an immediate replacement for departing first-choice goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

"We have been looking for a goalkeeper since Valdes announced he wanted to leave," Bartomeu told RAC1.

While remaining ever grateful to the opportunity given by Barca, Valdes has previously announced that he no longer wants to extend his stay at the Catalan club, indicating that he wanted to look for new challenges elsewhere.

Bartomeu, however, will be keeping himself mum as to Barcelona's final choice at the moment and placed an emphasis on picking only one stopper.

"The plan is to announce who will be our new goalkeeper in January, when Valdes makes his imminent exit official. Ter Stegen and Reina are among the few candidates still on our list," he added.

"We intend to sign just one goalkeeper and not two."

Reina is currently on loan at SSC Napoli, reuniting with his former Liverpool boss, Rafael Benitez. Simon Mignolet has usurped the number 1 spot since arriving from Sunderland last summer and from the looks of it, the Spaniard is better off somewhere else.

Menawhile, Ter Stegen, who contracted with Borussia Monchengladbach until 2015, has just been offered better contract, signaling the German club's intention of keeping the 21-year-old at the Stadion im Borussia-Park.
