The spin-off “Fear the Walking Dead” has wrapped up its six-episode maiden season on a high note, while the original flagship series “The Walking Dead” returns on Oct. 11 with Season 6. Now the fans cannot stop speculating about whether the characters from both the AMC’s original series would cross paths or not.

Unfortunately, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd of “Fear the Walking Dead” has denied rumours of a crossover between the two shows. It looks like they do not want to jump the gun, thinking that a crossover at this point is illogical.

Speaking to Deadline, she said, “Well, it’s truly the rules of the universe. I mean our group of survivors in ‘The Walking Dead’ haven’t even made it as far as Washington D.C. yet, in six seasons, and they are not that far away. So for the Fear characters to make it across the country? For what?”

"The Walking Dead" is set on the south side of Georgia, while "Fear the Walking Dead" is set near Los Angeles, California. Geographically speaking, the setting of the two shows are at the two opposite ends of the U.S. This is why Hurd thinks it is illogical at this point to plan for a crossover. She says that the characters of "Fear the Walking Dead" will need more room to develop before they move out from their location.

When told that most producers and networks would jump at the chance of a crossover between the two shows to boost ratings, Hurd said that their focus is on how to care for the characters, just like the way they did with “The Walking Dead.”

She thinks that pushing a crossover plotline at this point would compromise the integrity of the show.

“Right but that is truly jumping the shark because it’s not an outgrowth of who your characters are and what it is that each wants and needs,” Hurd said.

“Fear the Walking Dead” is a companion series and a prequel to “The Walking Dead”. It follows a dysfunctional family in LA during the early stages of the emerging zombie virus.

The short series made its debut on AMC on Aug. 23, 2015, with a record-breaking 10.13 million live viewers within the 18-49 year-old demographic, making it the most watched series premiere in cable history. It has already been renewed for 15-episode second season.
