‘Fear the Walking Dead’ season 3 news: Emma Caulfield’s character revealed in bits and pieces
“Fear the Walking Dead” season 3 will have a new female antagonist. “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alumnus Emma Caulfield has been cast to play the mysterious new villain, it has been known. What yet remains to be known is what Caulfield’s character will be like. Unfortunately for fans, details about the role have been kept totally under wraps for now.
However, some of the “FTWD” team recently opened up about Caulfield’s character. Here’s what they had to say.
"There's gonna be a new prominent character, who we're gonna meet south of the border, who is going to have an impact on Nick and Luciana, and Strand most likely," said executive producer Dave Erickson to Comic Book. "She will become somebody, I think, who can rival any of the powerful characters we've had on the show or will have on the show.” He further said that the reason behind adding Caulfield's character to the show is to create an equally potent opposing force, and to show what happens when they encounter each other in a conflict-induced situation. "The idea is also to see what happens if our family is on opposite sides of the conflict," Erickson added.
Season 2 ended with a jarring cliffhanger. Nick (Frank Dillane), along with Luciana (Danay Garcia) and her group, were seen being attacked by a group of armed gunmen at the US-Mexico border, during an attempt to cross it in pursuit of a safe haven. Elsewhere, Madison (Kim Dickens) and her boyfriend foraged for her missing son.
In a recently released first look picture for “FTWD” season 3, Madison and Travis (Cliff Curtis) were seen being held by apparently the same militia that attacked her son and his girlfriend. The upcoming season will reportedly properly introduce the brood and reveal their motive behind the ambush. Also per reports, Caulfield’s character will be leading the yet-to-be-introduced group.
Meanwhile, actress Danay Garcia spoke to the same source about Caulfield’s character in “Fear the Walking Dead” season 3. "I'm really looking forward to it, because you know what? I honestly think that every time somebody makes somebody evil, the really truth is that they are really not that evil," she said. "They just have their reasons, that they're making decisions based on their own issues. If you really go down -- deep, deep, deep down -- they're people that are just doing the best they can," the actress added.
It has also been said that Caulfield’s character will apparently have a major effect on her. "I’m really interested in seeing this character and how they're going to make her and turn her into what," Garcia said further. She added that she would like to see how Luciana deals with the situation.
“Fear the Walking Dead” season 3 arrives on AMC by June. Meanwhile, the series’ previous two seasons are available for streaming on Amazon Instant Video. In Australia, fans can watch “FTWD” on the FX network.
