Female German boxer shot by stepfather in Berlin

A female boxer has been shot by her own stepfather and former manager shortly before her fight Friday night in Berlin.
According to the Associated Press, 25-year-old boxer, Rola El-Halabi of Lebanese blood, was preparing for her fight that night when her 44-year-old stepdad, Roy El-Halabi stormed her dressing room and fired shots.
The undefeated German boxer was scheduled to face Bosnian boxer, Irma Balijagic Adler when her stepfather, whom she split from as her manager early this year, shot her in the hand, knee and feet.
"Papa rushed into the room. He threatened us with a gun in his hand and shouted 'Everyone out!' And then he shot me in the hand from three meters. I cried and screamed," the Associated Press quoted El-Halabi as telling a German daily newspaper, ‘Bild’.
The said reports also said that El-Halabi survived the attack but noted that the injuries inflicted by her father could jeopardize her boxing career.
The boxer’s stepdad is now under the custody of the Berlin police authorities but before he was manhandled by the police, the older El-Halabi had a chance to shoot two of the arena’s security guards.
The three victims according to media reports were brought to the hospital for surgery.
"When I had problems I could talk with him about anything, except when it was about boys. That was taboo," El-Halabi said, according to the Associated Press.
The undefeated 25-year-old boxer noted the Associated Press has WIBF and WIBA world titles in 2009 to her credit and has an impressive 11-0 career record with six knockouts.
