The film adaptation for "Fifty Shades of Grey" counts as the most highly-anticipated movie of the year. However, it looks as if fans of the BDSM-themed film won't likely to hear an announcement of an official cast given a director still hasn't been found. Yet, leave it to admirers of E.L. James best-selling novels to nominate potential actresses for the role. So far, here are the top brunettes eyed for the role of Anastasia Steele.

Universal Studios and Focus Features are currently working on the production for the S&M book turned film, "Fifty Shades of Grey." The announcement was made late in 2012 with the film set for a debut by summer of 2014. Even with the broadcasts made, a casting call for the upcoming film still has not been set up. For one, it is taking the production studio an awfully long time to begin casting lead roles or even finish the script to be used for the film.

Of course, leave it to fans of the racy novel to come up with countless lists naming possible celebrities in the Hollywood business to star as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. Currently in the lead to nab the role of Christian Grey is "Vampire Diaries" star, Ian Somerhalder. A few other favourites for the role include Henry Cavill of "Man of Steel" and Matt Bomer of "White Collar."

On the other hand, leading the race to play Anastasia Steele is "Game of Thrones" star, Emilia Clarke. Other favourites for the role include Alexis Bledel of "Gilmore Girls", Felicity Jones of "Like Crazy", Nina Dobrev of "Vampire Diaries", Allison Williams of "Girls" and Lucy Hale of "Pretty Little Liars."

Obviously, one defining characteristic of the actresses named to play Ana have brunette hair. Even with favourites such as Emma Roberts or Amanda Seyfried, known blondes, on the list, fans still opt to nominate naturally dark-haired girls for the role. Judging by how E.L. James had described Ana's look as blue-eyed dark haired girl, it's not hard to see why only brunettes have been called out.
