'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie: Charlie Hunnam Explains Why He's the Perfect Christian Grey [PHOTOS]
"Sons of Anarchy" Charlie Hunnam has remained mum through the fan riot since getting cast as Christian Grey for "Fifty Shades of Grey." However, over the weekend, Charlie has finally broken his silence and tells fans exactly why he's the perfect Christian. Aside from the "tangible chemistry" with co-star Dakota Johnson, Charlie says he's got the experience to play the sexually explicit part.
Author E.L. James disappointed her fans with her official cast announcement early September. For those who have only heard of the news, "Social Network's" Dakota Johnson and "Pacific Rim's" Charlie Hunnam officially signed on as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, respectively. Obviously, not many were pleased with the choices.
In fact, an online petition demanding Matt Bomer of "White Collar" and Alexis Bledel of "Gilmore Girls" replace both stars for the film adaptation. On the other hand, producers remained firm in their cast decision which means recasting is unlikely to occur. As for Charlie Hunnam, the "Sons of Anarchy" star finally opens up about the role and explains why he's the perfect star for the part.
"My first job was on a Channel 4 miniseries called Queer as Folk. It was incredibly explicit sexual scenes with a man. I mean I'm 16 and 17 years wiser now. So if I could do it when I was 18 with a guy, I can certainly do it at 33 with a lady," explained Hunnam to The Hollywood Reporter.
As for being paired onscreen with Dakota Johnson, Charlie stated there is chemistry, so fans won't have to worry about the racy scenes involving both of them.
"As soon as we got in the room and started reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it, because there was a tangible chemistry between us. It felt kind of exciting and fun and weird and compelling, and so that was it," said Charlie.
Dana Brunetti did claim they'd hire actors after a chemistry test was done. Charlie Hunnam simply proved that Dana is a man of his word. Fans of the series will just have to suck it up and accept the fact that Matt Bomer won't be replacing Charlie Hunnam for the part.
