'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie: E.L. James and Production Studio VS Fans
Following the cast announcement of "Fifty Shades of Grey," fans have been disappointed with the choices for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Countless online petitions still populate the web. Obviously, the film adaptation and its chosen cast has become a battle between E.L. James and her fans.
Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson had officially nabbed the lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, respectively. A handful of fans may be happy with the casting but some are disappointed. In fact, a day after the cast announcement was made an online petition sparked on Change.org.
"Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE and if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE And I read the whole trilogy and I can assure that Matt is the perfect actor for this movie and Alexis too. So please PLEASE, all of the GREYsessed and Bomerettes in the world NEED those actors. They always will be for us the Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. WE CAN DO ANYTHING GUYS, ANYTHING," stated the petition.
Readers of E.L. James' erotica novel demanded that "White Collar's" Matt Bomer and "Gilmore Girls" Alexis Bledel replace Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson. Both Matt and Alexis have been strong contenders in casting web polls and favourites in fan-made trailers for "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Supporters of Bomer claim he's every bit of Christian Grey that E.L. James had described in the novel. The same goes for fan favourite Alexis Bledel for the role of Anastasia Steele. Yet, even with the countless petitions, the studio and E.L. James are unlikely to recast.
Even with the online hate and news of fans boycotting the film, producer Dana Brunetti remains firm in his casting decision.
"There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc," saidDana, later adding, "So if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective."
As for the lead star, Charlie Hunnam who plays Christian Grey, the "Sons of Anarchy" star is confident he can pull off the sex scenes for the film and satisfy the viewers.
"You know what, I had such a baptism of fire with regards to sexuality on camera at the beginning of my career. I starred in the British Channel 4 miniseries Queer as Folk, where I played a young, gay character, and there were some incredible, explicit sex scenes on that show...Now I am 16 years older and more mature so I don't anticipate them being too much of a problem. It's like anything else, just an exciting challenge," stated Hunnam.
There is no chance recasting would happen so fans against the casting should simply give up the battle with E.L. James and the production studio.
