'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie: 'Twilight's' Stephanie Meyer Disses E.L. James
Obviously, Stephanie Meyer is the least bit honoured and delighted by E.L. James' "Twilight"-inspired fan fiction turned bestselling novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey." Once again, the "Twilight" author takes a jab at E.L. James. What did Meyer have to say about James's fastest-selling paperback this time around?
If fans of "Twilight" and "Fifty Shades of Grey" think that their authors would get along well, think again. In another interview with Stephanie Meyer, the "Twilight" author took an obvious jab at E.L. James. TMZ reported that when Stephanie was asked if she had any advice to give, Meyer made a face and refused to give advice simply because she "refuses to read the book."
Well, this wasn't the first time Stephanie had a personal vendetta against the BDSM-themed novels written by James. Fans may recall that earlier this year, Meyer dissed James' novels.
"Erotica is not something I read. There's a reason why my books have a lot of innocence," said Meyer.
Stephanie also reportedly claimed that the books were "too smutty" for her taste. This was hilariously ironic given E.L. James' novel was inspired first-hand by Meyer's "Twilight." If anything, E.L. James won't be seeing Stephanie Meyer at a cinema anytime soon once the film adaptation hits theatres by August 24, 2013.
On the other hand, fans of "Fifty Shades of Grey" spoke up on the diss. Erotica may be one thing but would that justify paedophilia, necrophilia and bestiality? In a report by The Stir, fans reacted negatively to the diss by Stephanie Meyer.
"She wrote a book where a werewolf is attracted to a baby. Erotica is bad, but pedophilia is okay?" commented one user.
"She's one to talk, necrophilia and bestiality are totally ok though? Either way, both books were horribly written as if they were first drafted on thin paper napkins with crayons and backwards Rs... Lmfao," said another user.
"I'm sorry I loved the Twilight series but to completely put down somebody that was so inspired by your story to create one of her own is out of line. Your story - that has a couple whose relationship meets all criteria to qualify as an abusive relationship by domestic violence standards I might add. Don't read erotica, thats fine but clearly your idea of innocence is a bit blurred," added one Facebook user.
