After months of waiting and a slight delay, “Heavensward” the first major expansion for “Final Fanatsy XIV: A Realm Reborn” will be hitting consoles and computers on June 23. The director and producer of the game, Naoki Yosida, made the announcement on the Square Enix panel in PAX East.

According to Gamespot, the “Heavensward” expansion will take players to new massive locations that were discussed in the game, but were not available at the time. Players will enter the realm of Ishgard, an area that can found in the world of Eorzea, where players will find themselves in the middle of conflict in The Dragonsong War between the Trevania and the Dragoon.

Many hardcore “Final Fantasy” fans will recognise the Dragoon as a character class that was available in “Final Fantasy: Tactics.” Members of the Dragoon class are spear-wielding soldiers who also have the uncanny ability to jump really high.

“Heavensward” will also introduce much larger areas in the game for players to explore. These areas are reportedly so massive that players will be given the option to explore them with new flying mounts that can transport users around the new areas with ease. These new flying mounts will range from airships to living creatures like Black Chocobos, Griffins and even Dragons.

Fans of the game who may want to try something new will be able to choose three new character classes that are exclusive to the “Heavensward” expansion. These classes are the Dark Knight class, the Astrologian class and the Machinist class.

While Dark Knight players won’t be able to protect Gotham with Robin or Batgirl, they will be given access to plenty of dark magic and giant swords. Players who choose the Astrologian class will be able to heal their comrades and shield them from harm. The Machinist class is reportedly a feature many fans have been asking for, as this class will give players access to guns for long range combat.

Players can start pre-ordering the “Heavensward” expansion for “Final Fantasy XIV” on March 16. Kotaku reports that players who pre-order the game will be given access to the expansion four days earlier than everyone else who purchases it in a later date.
