Fisher & Paykel Launches Nasal Pillow Mask to Treat Sleep Apnoea (VIDEOS)
Fisher & Paykel, a brand identified with quality kitchen appliance, is also into healthcare. The company's Healthcare unit rolled out a new product, the Pilairo Q nasal pillows mask, to treat obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).
It is an advance on a previous model that sold well and adds to Fisher & Paykel's mask offerings, including the Eson nasal mask and the Simplus full face mask. It has the effect seal as a result of the air pillow that self-inflates with continuous positive airway pressure.
It comes with an alternative adjustable version of the headgear.
The firms said it will introduce the new nasal pillows mask to Australia, Canada and the U.S. in the coming weeks.
OSA involves the temporary closure of airways during sleep that affects over 50 million people in developed nations. The new mask is included in Fisher & Paykel's non-invasive ventilation technologies to help provide a solution to OSA that increases with age.
The company announced the launch of the nasal pillow mask on Monday at an investor presentation in Sydney. Michael Daniell, chief executive of Fisher & Paykel, said the introduction of more respiratory and acute care products was driven by demand for such products, resulting in revenue growth from the new applications beyond invasive ventilation very strong, with consumables revenue up 38 per cent for the second half of 2013.
