Floyd Mayweather Sr. Plots Fight Tactics He Hopes Will Help His Undefeated Son Win Against Manny Pacquiao
Floyd Mayweather Sr. recently talked about the boxing strategy and fight tactics that would help his son win the fight against Manny Pacquiao. Floyd Sr. thinks that effective body punching combined with the classic one-two combo is a sure route to Mayweather’s 48-fight winning streak.
“If you’ve ever seen Pacquiao fight, against everybody, you never see nobody going to his body,” the elder Mayweather told MLive.com. “So my thing would be is to tell Floyd, hit him with the straight right hand and left hook, and then go back to the body.”
Floyd Sr. seemed to have figured Pacquiao out and studied him well. He said that Pacquiao only throws one or two punches, which will give Floyd Jr. the opportunity to inflict damaging attacks on the Filipino’s body.
The undefeated fighter will have to land precise and wounding blows to send Pacquiao sprawling across the ring or creasing to the floor, but the elder Mayweather has that part already worked out. According to the 62-year-old trainer, there are many ways to throw effective body punches.
Pacquiao was once knocked down by a hard blow to his kidney in 1999, when he lost his World Boxing Council Flyweight title to Medgoen Singsurat of Thailand. The Thai boxer threw a body punch to a frail-looking Pacquiao that sent the Filipino on the floor. The referee immediately stopped the fight and awarded the victory to Pacquiao’s opponent.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao is reportedly easing through his training camp for the super fight. Floyd Jr., on the other hand, is just getting ready to get back to his camp to start his preparations as well.
In an interview with Ben Thompson of Fight Hype, Floyd Jr. stressed that losing is not in his vocabulary. He said that that the Pacquiao fight is much like the previous fights that he had fought. He doesn’t have any specific strategy in mind except to come out as the winner in the biggest fight of the decade.
Floyd Jr. and Pacquiao will step on the ring on May 2 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The undefeated American fighter is expected to take home $120 million while Pacquiao is said to make at least $80 million off the fight.
