Free Cloud Storage Offered for LG Android Devices
Korean-based company LG has teamed up with Box to provide free cloud storage of up to 50GB to Android-based LG handsets.
This new offering for LG customers came about from the partnership between LG Electronics and Box, a leading content management provider. This offer will be open for LG users that have Android as their OS. Users are required to sign up with an account with Box through their LG Android devices from Nov. 30 to March 31, 2012 in order to avail of the 50GB free cloud storage.
The cloud can store an estimated 50,000 docs, photos and presentations. Aside from this, Box also announced new updates in their system for Android apps. According to Box, users will now be able to download files from Box to their local Android devices. Users can also access these files offline or through third-party apps on their mobile devices. Box also has a new "bulk upload capability" which would make transferring data (mobile devices to Box and vice versa) much easier.
This partnership is also part of LG's plan to establish a solid portfolio of enterprise mobility solution offerings through a robust partner ecosystem. This is in accordance with LG's current suite of solutions for mobile device management and security, mobile virtualization, unified communications, and cloud computing.
Ki S. Kim, corporate vice president and head of Global Enterprise Mobility Solutions (B2B) at LG Electronics said, "With 50GB of free cloud storage from Box combined with world-class LG Android mobile devices, LG users are provided with cloud computing capabilities to support secure content management, collaboration and productivity on the move. We will continue to set the standard in the enterprise mobility space by introducing innovative, cutting-edge solutions to enhance the mobile experience of enterprise users."
On the other hand, Box is not a newcomer in the field as it is currently handling different contents in the cloud as well as mobile devices from 7 million people and 100,000 businesses, 28 percent of which are included in the Fortune 500 list. Box described their sentiments about this partnership describing that the company is "very excited" with this new venture. Box also took this time to clear up rumors that Sony Ericsson is offering a promo for Xperia owners to have 50GB of free storage through Box in their Android mobile app. According to Box, this promo is "not active".
