French Open 2016 News: Where and when to watch, plus match predictions
French Open was washed out for the first time in sixteen years. Big time players Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams and Andy Murray are set to start Tuesday’s schedule.
An announcement came early in the afternoon informing players that the rain has once again caused a delay, according to USA Today. Tournament director Guy Forget expressed his disappointment and frustration over the weather.
“It is rather had when you’ve been dreaming of the tournament and we have to send players back to their hotels early in the day,” Forget said.
Despite forecast of possible rain, the French Open will resume on Tuesday.
French Open order of play and result predictions
World number one Novak Djokovic vs Roberto Bautista Agut will start the tournament early Tuesday morning. Djokovic, who felt disappointed when Rafael Nadal announced that he will withdraw from the tournament, is expected to play straight to the finals.
But it would be dangerous to underestimate Bautista Agut. He is known to be one of the most competitive and unyielding players on the court. Throughout his career, Bautista Agut has proven his skill in returning serves. His movements are fast and efficient, something he can only accomplish through a complete disregard of the scoreboard.
Djokovic may just face the toughest obstacle yet. For the Serb to overcome Bautista Agut, he will have to prove that he is the original benchmark of competitiveness.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic will win three sets over Roberto Bautista Agut’s two.
The French Open women’s singles will also be explosive early in the morning with a Serena Williams and Elina Svitolina clash. Williams, who had issues during her past tournaments, appears to be in top form in this year’s French Open as she breezed through the initial rounds. She keeps her games short and her shots big.
On the other side of the court, Svitolina seems to be looking for an intense rematch. Having lost to Williams in their last three meetings, Ukraine’s tennis player is fighting harder than ever with a straight sets win over Ana Ivanovic as her most recent trophy. Svitolina is posing as a threat to Williams’ goals. However, she will have to toughen up her serves and make it more consistent if she wants increase her chances of winning against veteran Williams.
Prediction: Serena Williams will give fans a straight sets win.
Starting the afternoon is Richard Gasquet and Andy Murray. France’s Gasquet is coming off of an impressive play against an injured Nick Kyrgios, who was penalised because of obscenities during their match. He was relentless and displayed near perfect form. But if there’s anything that Monday’s cancellation brought, it’s a huge advantage for Murray. The world number two had been throwing comments about needing to rest after a match, which hinted at his stamina. He was sloppy and inconsistent when he had to play on two consecutive days. But because of the bad weather, Murray was given the opportunity to rest up and return in top form.
Prediction: Andy Murray will triumph in the fourth set.
