A Supreme Court-led inquiry has recommended that the state government of New South Wales considering privatising the rest of its electricity industry.

Premier Barry O'Farrell released on Monday the results of the special commission of inquiry into the electricity industry that was conducted by former Judge Brian Tamberlin. The report highlighted that the state's generators be sold or offered on a long-term lease, particularly the Eraring, Delta West, Delta Coastal and Macquarie Generation generators.

In December 2010, the electricity industry of New South Wales underwent a $5.3-billion partial power privatisation and sold its electricity retailers to Origin Energy Ltd. and the local unit of Hong Kong-listed CLP Holdings Ltd.

The report likewise noted that New South Wales should "determine its objectives for the network business and determine whether they should remain in public ownership or be sold in part or in full," Mr O'Farrell said in a statement.

Mr O'Farrell added the cabinet will consider the report and make a decision before Christmas.
