'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Casting Round Up Full Details: New Faces Join 'GoT' from Joel Fry, Michiel Huisman to Joseph Gatt [VIDEOS]
Following the gruesome and countless deaths in Season 3 of “Game of Thrones,” new faces have been introduced to join the hit series as it kicks off in Spring 2014. From young scion, lords and leaders of slave mercenaries, the fourth season of the popular TV series is sure to blow your minds as it hits the tube next year.
Who are the Top New Faces on Season 4 of the 'Game of Thrones'?
Joel Fry
He is the latest addition to the casts of "GoT" Season 4. Announced barely two days ago, Fry plays a “young scion” from the colony called Meereen, dominated by slaves. He will portray the character of Hizdahr zo Loraq who shares a number of scenes with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). The storyline Fry will be playing on is still uncertain. It has been rumoured that he could play the scion who will be manipulating Targaryen. But it is highly likely that he could be one to face Targaryen and her expanding dragon army.
His character is only brought into the book series in book five, “A Dance with Dragons.” It should be noted that Daenery didn’t appear in book 4, “A Feast for Crows” and Season 4 is based largely in this series of the book. Though it is quite puzzling why Fry’s character, Loraq, will be brought in sooner than expected, since he’s coming from book 5 storyline, Fry’s addition to the casts of "GoT" is expected to make the series more thrilling than it has ever been with the Queen of the Dragons.
Joseph Gatts
Not too many details have come out on his role in Season 4 of "GoT" but Gatts is said to play Styr, Magnar of Thenn. Styr is a Wilding chief and Lord of Frostfangs.
Gatts is an English actor, born in Notting Hill, London. His first break in film was a role in the Grecian film, “Orpheus & Eurydice,” taking on a character playing opposite Oliver Reed. Other projects he was involved in included Cameron Mackintosh’s “Miss Saigon;” Len Miller’s police drama, “The Bill;” “Saurian;” and “Killing Ariel.”
Michiel Huisman
Huisman plays the character of Daario Naharis, replacing Ed Skrein who portrayed the role in Season 3. Naharis is the leader of an elite division of Dany’s ex-slave mercenaries called Stormcrows.
He is best known for his role in HBO’s “Treme” playing the role of Sonny, a musician hooked on drugs. The 32-year-old Dutch television and film actor also has a recurring role in “Nashville,” playing the role of a “bad boy” music producer, Liam McGuinnis. But the Holland-born star was not just a TV and film actor. Huisman was also the lead singer and guitarist for Dutch band called “Fontaine.”
Huisman joins other stars who will be playing characters recast for Season 4 --- Dean-Charles Chapman and Hafpor Julius Bjornsson.
Chapman plays the character of Tommen Baratheon, the younger brother of King Joffrey. It will be recalled that the role of Tommen was taken on by Callum Wharry from Seasons 1 to 3. Though this is not his first time to be on the "GoT" set. Chapman already played the role of a Lannister in two episodes of Season 3. He played Martyn Lannister in episodes, “Walk of Punishment” and “Kissed by Fire.”
Other characters brought in for Season 4 are:
Roger Ashton-Griffiths as Mace Tyrell
Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand
Pedro Pascal as Prince Oberyn Martell, The Red Viper
Mark Gatiss as Tycho Nestoris
Season 4 of “Game of Thrones” premieres in the Spring of 2014.
